Hello Heatherwood families,
SBA Testing Continues: 6th graders will be taking their ELA tests in their English/Language Art blocks from 4/25-4/27 and continuing 5/1-5/5. We ask that parents of 6th graders make efforts to avoid scheduling appointments during this time. Also, please remind students that electronic devices must not be on their person during SBA testing. Electronic devices should therefore be stored in student lockers. Students who bring their cell phones to class will be asked to place the cellphone in a protected area during testing.
Field Day Fun: Just a reminder that Field Day marks the celebration of a successful year. Participation in Field will be contingent upon students being academically successful in all classes as well as students meeting ALL behavioral expectations. Parents, please talk with your students about finishing the year strong. Please remind them to stay organized, complete and turn in their classwork!
ASB Fundraiser Celebration: Bowling and Root Beer Floats!
During lunches this week, students who sold ten (10) or more items for the ASB Fundraiser earlier in the semester will be offered field trip permission slips for bowling and root beer floats at Glacier Lanes. Students who sold twenty (20) or more items will be able to invite a friend (must be a student at HMS and must also complete a field trip permission slip). Permission slips are due to the main office no later than Friday, May 5.
Details for the Bowling Field trip:
Thursday, May 25 at Glacier Lanes in Everett. Bus departs HMS at 1:00pm and returns to HMS at 3:30pm. A second activity bus will be available for students at 4:00pm, otherwise students are responsible for their own transportation from HMS at 3:30. Parent volunteers are needed for chaperones—please email Janelle Jaeger at email@example.com if you are interested.
Community Conversation May 3rd: Come to Heatherwood on May 3rd at 7:00 p.m. to learn about how consistent growth in enrollment over the next few years will impact our schools across the district.
Seussical Jr: Join us for another Heatherwood Booster production, Seussical Jr opens on May 5th at 7:00 in the Jackson High School auditorium. Tickets sold at the door and available online at :http://www.brownpapertickets.com/event/2888366. The musical will run both weekends with their final performance on May,13th. Tickets are $4 for students and children and $8 for adults. Students can also purchase tickets at lunch on April 27th and May 2nd.
Dress Code Reminders: As weather slowly improves and we see more and more sunny days, it is a good idea to remind students and parents about the importance of being compliant with the school dress code. Pants must be worn at the waist. Clothing must not advertise weapons, alcohol or drugs. Paper thin knits and or plunging necklines or backs must be worn with a cover up (sweater or sweatshirt). Tights or yoga pants must not be opaque and mesh inlays at upper thigh or hip must be covered with shorts or a skirt. (Please note that our current dress code policy does NOT allow tights/yoga pants but other middle schools in our district do. Knowing that Heatherwood’s policy needs to be brought to consistency with other middle schools, I have specifically NOT enforced this rule).
The next track meet is this Wednesday, April 26 at Einstein Middle School. The meet starts at 3:45pm with our buses departing from behind JHS at 2:20pm.
Attendance Procedures Updates based on revision to board policy 3122.
Pre-arranged absences: Based on the updated revision to board policy 3122, which was created to align with state attendance policies, a student can have up to five (5) school days excused for pre-arranged absences. Any days beyond this will be unexcused.
To report an absence for your Heatherwood student, parents or guardians should send or email in a written note to the Attendance Office:
The written note should contain the following information:
· Student name and student ID number;
· Date(s) of the absence;
· Reason for the absence;
· Parent/guardian name;
· Parent/guardian name and signature; and
· Phone number where the note can be verified
E-mail HEAAttendance@everettsd.org, or visit the Attendance Office in person during school hours
Visitors Sign-In: If you are visiting our school for any purpose (meeting with a teacher, dropping off lunch, or adding money to your student’s lunch account) please sign in at the office and get a visitor’s badge. Visitors to the school are not permitted beyond the main office/foyer area without a visitor’s badge. Parents, this is extremely important for school safety reasons and we appreciate your support!
