WYA is a division of the National Guard's Youth ChalleNGe Program. Established under authority of both federal and state law, WYA is a state-run, 22-week residential intervention for youth ages 16-18 who have dropped out of high school or are at risk of dropping out. Students can recover up to 8 credits while at WYA.
Each youth has a mentor of their choice that they work closely with during their time at WYA and the year after to develop goals and a post-residential plan. Student participants are not allowed to have any convicted felonies or legal action pending, and must remain free of illegal drugs.
